According to VMO veteran Tim Norton, one of the most fundamental characteristics for determining the maturity of a vendor-client relationship is transparency between parties.
“Providing the right level of transparency and expecting the same in return helps to build a far better foundation for which to develop the client-vendor relationship, leading to mutual business success,” he writes. “This aspect of the relationship reveals how much trust is involved, which in turn will drive the evolution of the partnership.”
Norton explains where this approach must take place, pointing out that almost no department of the corporation should be closed off when it comes to vendor partners.
