Angostura No. 1 from Trinidad has won the 2017 Rum of the Year award, reclaiming a title that it previously held in 2014.
Presented by the Rum Journal’s Rum Awards, the recognition of this exquisite blend was inspired by the unique flavors created during its aging process: 10 years in American oak casks and then another 6 in French oak casks that were originally used for cognac.
“The result is a masterwork,” writes the Caribbean Journal, “a rum that reaches the highest achievement in the rum world – an exquisite roundness and smoothness without sacrificing personality.”
The runners up for the prize were Papa’s Pilar Sherry Finish from Florida, Facundo Exquisito from Puerto Rico, and St Lucia Distillers 1931.
