SGF Buys Addeco’s Offices in Uruguay

Staffing and back-office services provider SGF Global acquired Adecco’s operations in Uruguay, aiming to capitalize on the country’s growing demand for tech talent.

This acquisition follows Uruguay’s initiative, launched nearly two years ago, to attract global technology professionals as part of its strategy to boost IT services exports.

SGF Global, which has been operating since 1992, maintains a presence in just about every country in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The company announced that its new Uruguayan branch will prioritize employer of record (EOR) services and plans to introduce previously unavailable services in Uruguay, such as nearshoring.

In Uruguay, Adecco primarily offered project management, recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) and corporate training services.

Industry analysts believe SGF is well-positioned to address Uruguay’s tech talent shortage by helping local firms access global talent.

The Uruguayan market had a deficit of 3,500 jobs in the tech sector as of June 2023, leading to reliance on foreign labor. As a result, local technology companies are increasingly hiring talent abroad, especially from Argentina and Colombia.

The global human resources company Deel found that between June 2022 and June 2023, the number of Uruguayan companies hiring professionals abroad to work remotely grew by 96%.
