IT departments in corporate firms are prioritizing hiring cloud and cyber security experts, as the skills gap worsens following the rising demand for digital transformation services.
The IT leaders are facing “critical skills gaps” and, as a result, all employees are under tremendous stress, according to Skillsoft’s annual report on IT skills and salary.
No matter how expensive are these skills, companies seem determined to hire professionals with expertise in cloud and cyber security.
Considering the report, it will be difficult for the industry to tackle the skill gap in the foreseeable future, partly because technology is changing swiftly. By the time the employees learn new skills, technology changes. As technology changes, so do the need for new skills.
The good news is certification courses are yielding higher dividends. Around 64% of IT decision-makers have stated that trained employees deliver $10,000 more in added annual value compared to those who never underwent training.
“While it is encouraging to see early signs of closing the gap, work is far from done,” Michael Yoo, General Manager at Skillsoft. “Organizations must place a bigger emphasis on investing in employee training, empowering professionals to earn new certifications, and filling vacant roles with diverse candidates.”
More than 90% of IT leaders said they were running upskilling programs for their employees.
In their bid to fill vacant positions, companies are offering exorbitant salaries. Considering the report, the skills that are high in demand include cloud computing, IT security, design, and IT architecture.
