Sykes Enterprises has announced that it will add 200 employees to its call center in Fort Smith, Arkansas, as it has landed a new contract with an American corporate company.
Launched in 2011, the Fort Smith call center is located in Phoenix Mall, where the company also runs a shared services center. There are currently 500 employees.
Syke’s expansion has delighted Fort Smith City authority, which was in fact worried over the declining number of jobs in the city.
“This announcement is not only great news for Sykes, but for Fort Smith and the many people who will enjoy employment as a result of this continued growth,” said Tim Allen, president and CEO Fort Smith Regional Chamber of Commerce, in the statement.
Fort Smith lost more than 1,000 jobs in 2018, reported local news portal Talk Business & Politics citing data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Tampa, Florida-based Sykes – which provides customer services in 40 languages through wide-ranging channels including chat, text, voice, and social media – reported US$48.926 million in net income for 2018, up 52% compared to US$32.216 million in 2017.
Across the world, it runs more than 79 call centers, with around 28 of them based in the United States.
In addition, the company has nearly 5000 at-home customer engagement agents, who provide technical and customer support to the company’s clients mostly in the US.
In Latin America, Sykes has operations in El Salvador, Mexico, Brazil, Costa Rica, and Colombia.
