David Pleiss at the West Corporation’s corporate office in Omaha, Nebraska cites a decline in call volume, as the reason for the closure.
Pleiss says the company hasn’t lost any clients, but that they have failed to secure new contracts and after thought and consideration West Corporation officials decided to close down operation instead of renew its lease which is up for renewal in October, but a decision to renew the lease was due by April.
The company has offered a severance package to its management staff and has encouraged other employees to apply for positions through the West At Home Program which allows people to work from home. Throughout Texas, the West Corporation operates 13 other call centers with some located in San Antonio, Beaumont and El Paso.
The West Corporation facility opened its doors in Bryan in 2006 and last year in June, the company laid off 160 of its full time employees.
