Why Outsourcing Fails

There are countless reasons any project can fail, and this goes for outsourced work as well. CIO magazine identified the top five: (1) poor planning, (2) a lack of communication, (3) not trusting the provider enough to involve it early on, (4) team members not understanding their roles, and (5) failing to see how the project fits into the big picture for the company. Best practices can usually help any company overcome these pitfalls, and Christopher Augustin, CIO of First Data, may have the best advice: “The outsourced tech team has to be aligned with the goals of the product and the business.”
