Wipro Promotes Xavier Diniz to Lead Operations in Canada

Indian outsourcing firm Wipro has promoted its senior executive Xavier S Diniz to the position of country manager, putting him in charge of the company’s operations in Canada. In his new role, Diniz needs to build strategic relationships with clients and industry partners, helping the company bolster its position in the North American country.
“Diniz will focus on driving Wipro’s growth in Canada and providing leadership to the regional teams in line with Wipro’s strategy for the country,” Wipro said in a statement. The outsourcer noted that Diniz will oversee its “hundreds” of employees in Canada.

Diniz, whose appointment will come into effect on April 1, 2016, will report to Ankur Prakash, the current head Wipro’s emerging markets unit and a former executive with Tata Consultancy Services.
A former executive of IBM Canada and PeopleSoft, Diniz brings with him over 20 years of experience in the Canadian IT industry. The outsourcer credits him with being instrumental in building ties with some of the key Canadian corporate clients and positioning Wipro’s capabilities to manage its IT infrastructure with effective collaborations.
“We have witnessed substantial growth over recent years and established ourselves as strong technology experts in the country with some notable client acquisitions,” said Prakash. “We aim to build on that momentum with the new structural changes.”
Diniz joined Wipro about five years ago. Although it made its foray into Canada way back in 1996, Wipro was a small player in the country until the middle of 2014 when it acquired ATCO I-Tek, a subsidiary of the Alberta-based ATCO Ltd.
ATCO I-Tek came with 500 IT staff and roughly a dozen clients in the utility sector. Moreover, ATCO handed Wipro a $1.1 billion outsourcing contract. This bolstered Wipro’s foothold in the Canada market, across all industry verticals, particularly energy, natural resources, government, and healthcare.
