Boston Scientific Corporation, an American producer of medical devices, has expanded its presence in Costa Rica with the opening of a new shared services center in the Zona Franca América, Heredia.
The expansion is expected to create 250 additional jobs within the next year.
The new facility consolidates the company’s Research and Development (R&D) and global shared services, bringing together around 1,200 employees across functions such as design, packaging engineering, project management, finance, IT, and human resources.
The expansion is expected to create 250 additional jobs within the next year. The company officials said the new center will boost efficiency and innovation to better serve patients worldwide.
Costa Rica’s Acting Minister of Foreign Trade, Indiana Trejos, hailed the investment as a testament to the country’s skilled workforce and stability.
Operating in Costa Rica for over 20 years, Boston Scientific runs three manufacturing plants in Heredia, Alajuela, and Cartago, and a commercial operation in San José.
Boston Scientific’s journey in Costa Rica began in 2003 with a small workforce of 17 people. It opened its first manufacturing plant in La Aurora de Heredia in 2004, supporting its Endoscopy business, gradually expanding to become the largest medical device manufacturer in Costa Rica.
