Central America is a prime spot for solar energy, and the region is increasingly benefitting from a blessed location where the sun does shine. In the past two weeks, according to Greentech Media, Honduras finished a 61-megawatt solar project, Guatemala witnessed an 80-megawatt facility come online, and El Salvador paved the way for an auction that will lead to some 150 megawatts of sun-fueled power. These developments are all in addition to the record-high 363 megawatts of “utility-scale” photovoltaic power that Latin America as a whole put online in the second quarter of 2015, as reported by Greentech. For Central American nations lagging in infrastructure and connectivity — and those who work there — this is the type of progress that could brighten up even the cloudiest day.
