Grupo Fermaca to Build LatAm’s Largest Data Center

Mexican infrastructure giant Grupo Fermaca has unveiled plans to construct Latin America’s largest data center in the northern state of Durango.

The hyperscale facility, with an estimated investment of $2.7 billion, will feature an installed capacity of 250 megawatts.

This marks the largest single investment in Durango’s history. Construction is set to commence by the end of March.

The data center will cater to leading national and international technology firms, including Amazon, Netflix, and Home Depot, providing advanced data storage and processing capabilities.

The government says it is confident that the project will elevate Durango’s role in the national digital infrastructure landscape, shifting its economic focus from traditional industries—such as mining, timber, and agriculture—toward high-tech services.

The project features simultaneous construction of a Texas-Durango gas pipeline to ensure a stable fuel supply for energy generation and a high-capacity fiber optic network linking Mexico’s tech hubs, such as Querétaro and Guadalajara. This network will serve as a key digital backbone, linking Mexico’s tech hubs with the United States.

Analysts highlight that the fiber optic infrastructure will establish a digital corridor across multiple municipalities, including Cuencamé, Guadalupe Victoria, Pánuco de Coronado, and Durango capital, significantly improving regional connectivity.

During the construction phase, the project is expected to generate over 3,500 jobs across all four infrastructure components.
