Deep in the jungle of Honduras, scientists have uncovered a lost city. Though archeologists are still unearthing evidence to determine which ancient culture lived there, some believe it may be either the mythical “White City” or “Lost City of the Monkey God” heralded by conquistadors during their early explorations of the Americas. Though nobody knows who built the place, it has spurred excitement in the nation — President Juan Orlando Hernandez visited the ongoing excavation last month — and the archeology world. Experts have all but ruled out any of the major known societies, like the Maya, Olmec, or Aztec, so this Honduras lost city may have been the work of another culture in the area that was more sophisticated than previously known.
