Barbados native Rihanna is usually the pop star making news in the Caribbean, but it was Alicia Keys who stunned the region by recreating a classic Jamaica tourism photo on Instagram. The nation will undoubtedly appreciate the help. While the 2.1 million tourists Jamaica greeted in 2014 puts it third among Caribbean nations, this was less than half the 5.1 million who visited the Dominican Republic and well behind Cuba’s 3 million. Jamaica continues to host more Canadians and Europeans each year, but the number of Americans visiting has been stagnant for nearly a decade. Perhaps the “Girl on Fire” will help ignite these numbers in 2015.
