Just over a decade ago, Guatemalan export services were rising on a wave of government support and intense expansion.
When Nearshore Americas spoke with then president of the Guatemala Exporters Association (AGEXPORT) Carlos Amador, the BPO industry had just created 10,000 jobs in one year.
Knowledge services had recently been defined as a strategically important economic sector by the Guatemalan government and support was high, though as Amador said, greater knowledge of the industry was needed in the country. English language skills were another point that the industry needed to work on, he said.
So, 10 years later, how has Guatemala grown within BPO? Has it reached its potential, and how much further does it have to go?
Nearshore 1.0 is a new series featuring former video interviews and insights by the Nearshore Americas team. Keep an eye out for more.
