India’s IT giant Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) claims to have trained more than half of its global workforce in generative AI.
TCS revealed that it has equipped over 350,000 employees with generative AI skills. Back in January, the company claimed to have trained 150,000 of its workers in the technology, which top brass sees as a paramount business opportunity for its IT services branch.
Generative AI is expected to revolutionize business functions like sales, marketing, customer service and software development. Experts predict it could unlock trillions of dollars in value across diverse sectors; from banking, to life sciences.
Consulting firm McKinsey & Company estimates that generative AI could potentially contribute between US$2.6 trillion and US$4.4 trillion in value each year, this across 63 identified use cases. This figure could rise significantly when considering its integration into existing software applications.
Analysts have warned, however, that IT vendors might have to wait a while before securing large-scale contracts involving generative AI integration.
TCS CEO K. Krithivasan disclosed in late 2023 that the company had initiated over 250 pilot projects focused on generative AI.
Reports suggest TCS is exploring applications to enhance customer experiences, such as enabling airlines to provide natural conversation options with passengers during flight disruptions.
