Uruguay Outdoes Argentina for World’s Biggest Barbecue

The city of Minas in Uruguay has defeated its rival Argentina by setting a new Guinness world record for hosting the largest barbecue ever, at 10.36 tons of grilled beef in one day.

The barbecue required almost 200 cooks and 60 tonnes of wood to grill 16.5 tonnes of raw meat for a total of 14 hours.

Argentina was the holder of the previous record (9.16 tons), seizing the title from Uruguay in 2011 — there has always been a fierce rivalry between the two nations over which has the best beef.

“All this is not about the Guinness record; it’s about beating the Argentines,” one Uruguayan cook told AFP news.
