Argentina-born technology entrepreneur Agustina Fainguersch has been appointed regional director of Meta, the parent company of social media giant Facebook.
Fainguersch, the 2019 winner of the Nearshore Executive Award, will take charge of Meta’s operations in Spanish-speaking South America and Miami.
“I am very happy to join Meta in March. I am passionate about working at the intersection of technology and social impact, with a focus on the empowerment of women and underrepresented groups,” Fainguersch said in a statement.
Fainguersch is a well-known name in the Latin American technology services market. She has been working for Accenture since January 2021 when the IT services giant purchased Wolox, an agile software development firm she co-founded 10 years ago.
More than anything else, promoting women in the technology field has been her mission. Over the past decade, she has helped hundreds of women to become software engineers and find leadership roles in IT companies.
A software engineering graduate from ITBA in Buenos Aires, Fainguersch has played a leading role in fostering tech talent across Latin America. One of her projects was “Code for Buenos Aires”, which promoted enhanced transparency, open data, and civic technology in the Argentinian capital. In 2017, she launched Muzi, an app that reduced the cost of healthcare and offered rapid HIV tests.
More than anything else, promoting women in the technology field has been her mission. Over the past decade, she has helped hundreds of women to become software engineers and find leadership roles in IT companies.
Female engineers accounted for nearly 40% of executives at Wolox. Reports suggest that she agreed to merge her company with Accenture only after the US-based IT giant accepted her request to increase the number of female workers in the company.
“I am making sure these women achieve their goals, receive promotions, and that their career paths are well aligned with Accenture’s values,” she said in an interview with Latin America Business Stories in January this year.
At Wolox, she teamed up with Microsoft and EIDOX to launch a program called Plan Azurduy. The initiative was designed to train young mothers, between 18 and 30 years old, in software testing.
The program turned out to be a huge success, enabling many Latin American women to find high-paying jobs in the IT services industry.
At Accenture, she worked for another initiative called technoloshe, which offered scholarships to female students pursuing careers in STEM fields.
“We are very happy to add a woman with Agustina’s achievements to our team. Her experience and her focus on innovation will open new doors for our clients and partners in the region,” stated Maren Lau, Regional Vice President of Meta.
