The Argentine Association of ICT, Video & Connectivity (ATVC) has voiced concerns that telecom and technology companies are constrained, urging the government to ease regulations and lower the tax burden.
The industry chamber, which represents connectivity and audiovisual operators, cautioned that a 41% tax load is crippling small and mid-sized providers.
The association contends that these taxes, particularly the Gross Income Tax (IIBB), restrict companies from investing in their networks and services, limiting their ability to modernize and compete with global platforms.
Federico Fornelli, President of the Association, told local media outlets that regulation should not apply solely to telcos, but technology companies should also be required to contribute to building telecom networks.
Although global content platforms deliver the same services as telcos, they are governed by different rules, he said, urging the regulator to ensure a level playing field.
In essence, ATVC is seeking to have large streaming companies contribute to network infrastructure costs.
The chamber presented a reform agenda focused on simplifying outdated regulations, cutting taxes, and assisting SMEs in digital transformation.
Piracy also remains a key concern, with ATVC calling for balanced solutions as operators expand into OTT platforms and streaming services.
