“Finance will continue to be the main IT demand generator in Colombia,” said Unisys LACSA outsourcing and services head Carlos Ferrer this week during an event near Medellín. Colombia continues to grow despite the depression in its main export of petroleum, and IT and BPO are leading the way for professional services and knowledge work to potentially replace petroleum and mining as economic pillars for the Andean nation. The banking and finance sector continues to grow, and insurance giants Lloyd’s and Arthur J. Gallagher are making moves in the country. Smaller BPO firms, like Orlando-based Team International Services, are making strategic bets on Colombia as well.
