The logo of Panama City brewpub La Rana Dorada fits its name. As the symbol of what translates to The Golden Frog, it depicts a dandy amphibian who is yellow head to toe. While the logo is nice, the beer is even better. In its four locations — including one in the historic Casco Viejo district that puts the capital’s colonial-era heritage on full display — La Rana Dorada serves a pale ale, pilsner, Belgian-style, and porter. For my money, the dark porter is the best of the bunch, but each is a crowd pleaser depending upon what best suits your palette. There are few better ways to end a stroll around Casco Viejo on a hot day then sitting at one of the pub’s outdoor tables under an umbrella having a few pints.
