Dominican Entrepreneurs Have Big Plans for AI Upskilling Program Tested in NYC Latino Community

Two Dominican entrepreneurs are set to transform their homeland into a hub for AI exports, following the successful training of 18 Latino students in New York in AI model building.

Chris Corcino and Dalisa Heredia announced that their pilot program, “AI for Everyone,” achieved remarkable success and would soon be replicated in the Dominican Republic.

The program’s primary objective is to develop new AI models and equip students with advanced AI skills, enabling them to secure lucrative job opportunities.

“AI for Everyone” was conceived when Manuel Matos, a Dominican-born businessman and founder of Dominicanos USA (DUSA), visited the Cincinnatus Institute, which Corcino and Heredia operate in the Dominican Republic.

Following the visit, a three-month pilot program was launched at ELLIS Prep Academy in the Bronx, New York City, targeting predominantly Latino students aspiring to enter the technology sector.

During the period, students were introduced to fundamental computer science concepts, with some even creating animations and games.

They also engaged in the New York State Education Department’s (NYSED) computational media curriculum, producing innovative projects such as abstract scrapbook art.

The Cincinnatus Institute, with centers in Santiago, Jarabacoa and Santo Domingo, is set to incorporate AI into its curriculum. The goal is to train as many students as possible in generative AI, paving the way for the Dominican Republic to become a significant player in the global AI industry.
