Indian BPO startup Decipher Health Records is in the process of setting up a contact center in Guyana, with the aim of creating 300 jobs in the country.
Headquartered in Bangalore, Decipher provides medical transcription and revenue management services to hospitals in the United States. It employs about 700 people in four delivery centers, including one in the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo.
Decipher’s Guyanese operations will be set up in the coming days, stated Dr. K.J. Srinivasa, Indian High Commissioner to Guyana, confirming that the BPO has already signed a lease with a local landlord in Georgetown.
Guyana, one of the Caribbean’s few oil-rich countries, is trying to diversify its economy away from oil, tilting it more towards services.
“This signing is an indication of the Government of Guyana initiatives to create employment throughout the country and facilitate the rapid expansion of economic activities countrywide to boost the economy and support the diversification of the non-oil sector,” stated Dr. Peter Ramsaroop, head of the Guyana Office for Investment (GO Invest).
Decipher is the first Indian BPO to launch operations in Guyana. Ramsaroop said the government is making more facilities available to house BPO firms in Essequibo and Berbice, a small town along the Berbice River, adding that Midas contact center in Linden is already operating.
