Jamaican real estate firm Barnett is set to launch a business process outsourcing (BPO) incubator in its tech park in Montego Bay, offering plug-and-play contact centers for startups that have contracts to provide customer service.
“What it does [is] it creates the opportunity for the new player to come in and test the water,” Mark Kerr-Jarrett, CEO of Barnett, told the Jamaican press.
This will be the third BPO incubator in Jamaica. Similar incubators are operational in Montego Bay Free Zone and G-Tech Park in Portmore.
Incubators are usually equipped with high-speed internet, telephones and other resources such as PCs, headphones, and software. In addition, the incubators provide training programs in areas such as customer service, sales and marketing.
“We have two floors at 22,000 square feet. We have five floors at 4,400 square feet each, and they can take any portion of that and then build out as they grow and get a better foothold in Jamaica,” Kerr-Jarrett added.
The tech park, located in Fairfield, St. James, about 10 kilometers from Montego Bay’s Norman Manley International Airport, already houses large foreign BPOs such as Conduent.
Kerr-Jarrett said Barnett is adding new amenities to the tech park, including clinics, a laboratory and a pharmacy.
