New York’s Museum of Modern Art has received a generous gift of more than 102 Latin works from a long-time trustee, Patricia Cisneros.
The pieces range from works on paper, to paintings and sculptures, dated between 1940 and 1990, and were created by 37 Latin artists in Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, and Uruguay.
Artists include Lygia Clark, Helio Oiticica, Lygia Pape, Jesus Rafael Soto, Alejandro Otero, and Tomas Maldonado.
The museum said it will present a major exhibition drawn from the Cisneros gift sometime in the next few years.
“The breadth of this gift is unprecedented,” the Museum of Modern Art said in a statement.
The museum’s existing collection already includes more than 5,000 works by artists from Latin America.
