There are nearly 10,000 air miles between the capitals of Chile and Qater, and one airline is going to start offering a direct flight next year. Next year, Qatar Airways is set to launch the route from Doha to Santiago, which at 18 hours and 9,008 miles will be the world’s longest. Akbar Al Baker, CEO of Qatar Airways, also recently announced that his airline has three other long-distance routes from the Middle East to South America in the works, one going to Rio de Janiero and two others heading to as-yet-unidentified hubs.
