Holy Week Attracts Thousands to Antigua, Guatemala

As Semana Santa (Holy Week) kicks off across Latin America, few locations in the region offer a more impressive spectacle than Antigua, Guatemala.

During this week, the festivities consume the whole town, as residents decorate their buildings and many of the city’s streets are adorned with colorful, ornate sawdust carpets that take hours to create. Alongside that are a variety of Easter processions taking place between April 9 and 16.

Guatemala’s international airport is 40km (25 miles) away from Antigua. Stay in one of Antigua’s colonial accommodations (like the Casa del Parque Hotel) and explore the city on foot.
